This is a "choke point" where nearly all the water of the creek flows through a fairly small gap in the rocks (at least for this water level). This is about one mile below Cascade Falls north of Pembroke, Virginia.

Cascade Falls
This is the reward for a 2-mile hike along Little Stony Creek. Well, there are two routes to the falls. One of them is along the creek and the other follows the fire road, but the creek is much more interesting - even if you are not stopping frequently to take photos of water features in the creek. One of the features that makes this 69-foot waterfall interesting is the "staircase" at the base of the cliff. It looks almost man-made and creates plenty of opportunity for abstract views.

Storm Over New River Gorge
A storm rolled across as I took in the sights at Grandview Overlook at New River Gorge. A quick check of the cloud direction showed it was not going to come in our direction. I was struck by two things in this scene. First was the visual conflict of sun on one side of the "U"-turn and rain on the other. The other was the dramatic backlighting of the clouds.
